Make Up Monday*: Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer

I've heard so much about the new Rimmel Apocalips Lip Laquers in blogland that I was compelled to go and try them myself as everyone seems to be raving about them. I don't often buy drugstore lipsticks or glosses as they never seem to work out for me the way I would like them to, however this time I decided to throw that attitude out the window and hot footed it over to Boots to get my paws on their three-for-two offer. I bought four of them. Still don't know why. I guess the shopping mist descended on me.

I decided to shy away from my usual classic red lip colour preferences and instead chose the following four shades: Stellar (tomato red), Celestial (dark rose pink), Luna (orangey peach) and Nude Eclipse (beige). These lip lacquers are basically uber-pigmented lip glosses with a hoof-style applicator. The finish is opaque, not at all sheer, with a vivid hit of colour. Let's take a closer look:

These lip lacquers all apply really smoothly, give good coverage and a high shine. I noticed that the darker shades have a tendency to transfer onto my teeth, which is alarming, although maybe it's just me applying too much product. Probably.

The colour is indeed long lasting but only if you don't plan on eating or drinking anything at all whilst wearing it. I wore Celestial during a four-hour shopping trip recently and it totally stayed in place until I succumbed to a chai latte. When I finished my drink, there was more product on the cup than left on my lips. Messy.

Of all these colours, Celestial for day then Stellar for night are my favourites. Luna and Nude Eclipse are both a little too light for me in 'real life', although they don't actually look too bad in these pictures. Odd.

I'd recommend trying these lip lacquers if you're after a strong glossy colour and don't mind the prospect of leaving your mark wherever you go. At £5.99 each they're good value. I'm actually pretty impressed.

  3. Does Stellar transfer to your teeth? I've had a similar colour liquid lipstick from Revlon and it was great until it made it's way onto my teeth. NOT a good look. xx

    1. Sadly it did indeed transfer onto my teeth... nothing a bit of increased dental vigilance can't resolve though!
