So Long, 2013!

That's it, another one bites the dust! This year has absolutely sped by and has most definitely had its highs and lows for me.. in truth I'll be glad to see the back of 2013 and look forward to all that 2014 has to offer.

I would like to say a great big sloppy thank you to everyone who has read my blog over the past year and has taken the time to comment, tweet, email.. it never fails to surprise me that anyone does! Blogging has proven itself to be an addiction that I just can't shake and I'll be back in the new year with a new look and more musings.

I thought I'd do my final post of the year as a montage of images using my most favourite app that has sprung up over the last few days: Flipagram! I know there's loads of these knocking around at the moment, but if 2013 was the year of the selfie (thanks to Instagram), then it seems like a fitting way to conclude.

Laterz!

How to Treat Dry, White Nails

I pretty much always have my finger nails painted, but on the rare occasion I don't, they are in good condition and I'm OK with showing them off in their natural state. Not so my toe nails. They have spent literally years covered up in different polishes to the end result that the top halves have become alarmingly white in colour, dry and generally look a bit yuck. My solution was always to cover them up with more polish, in a dark shade so the white didn't show through. A never ending cycle!

Manicure Monday: All That Glitters

I love a glitter nail polish, I do. Maybe it's my inner 5-year old, but I just can't resist the addition of a sparkly top coat to an otherwise understated manicure. Having applied a wintry pale blue polish yesterday, I couldn't decide which glitter to add on top, so tried out these five:

My Christmas Party Dress

This year's work Christmas party took place in a casino in Leicester Square.. naturally there was a Bond theme, which I chose to ignore. I'm not comfortable going all-out glam so instead I took the opportunity to wear my new favourite 'going out' dress - this shoulderless beauty from Motel Rocks. I felt fabulous! I can see me wearing this to death over the Christmas party season and maybe even on New Year's Eve too, this dress will just keep on giving!

There was a surreal addition to the night, in the shape of real life Bond characters (actors!) Jaws and Odd Job, wandering about with a pretty convincing Santa (i.e. sporting a genuine beard). Sadly I didn't have the presence of mind to take any photos (too many free flowing drinks, oops) so you'll just have to take my word for it.

P.S. Excuse the windswept fringe and random creases in the dress in these photos: I promise you I was a lot better groomed on the day of the party. I'd curled my hair and everything!

My Outfit:

Boots: New Look | Necklace: H&M (old) | Rings: Primark / Topshop (all old)
Bracelets: Urban Outfitters (old) / Black Tied / Claire's (old)

Tartan Leggings

Is it just me who associates tartan with Christmas? Maybe it's the abundance of yummy shortbread knocking about in Scottish-themed wrapping at this time of year, but I've always grouped the two together. With this in mind, you could say that I attempted a festive look here *cue tenuous link*. Ahem.. so today I'm wearing my most favourite recent legwear purchase: these wonderful tartan leggings. I have so much love for them: they're incredibly comfy, the perfect length (petite - huzzah!) and have consequently become my weekend wear of choice. Yes I'm actually wearing them RIGHT NOW, just like this:

I made a Christmas card out of myself!

French Connection & Great Plains SS14 Preview

'Tis the season to be checking out next year's fashion.. by which I mean attending different brands' spring summer 2014 press days and having a good old nose through the rails to see what we can expect when the weather eventually turns (hopefully) warmer. I recently attended the Great Plains and French Connection collection preview to do just that. I thoughtfully took some pictures so I could show you guys too - all in the spirit of giving!

First up, Great Plains which is a boutique brand in the French Connection group. Admittedly this is not a brand that has previously been on my radar, so I was curious to see their pieces. The colour palette was predominantly blues and greens with some cute as a button prints thrown in for good measure. The shapes are pretty classic, with a few 50s and 60s touches, to me the whole collection made me think of vintage French Riviera - très classy and sophisticated.

The majority of the other rails were taken up with French Connection's offerings so I had a nice long browse through those too. There were some gorgeous pieces which should start hitting the stores around February 2014. There was womenswear, menswear, accessories AND homeware - they've got it all covered! There were loads to look at but here are just a few choice items (i.e. which I would happily buy tomorrow)...

What do you think of this peek into fashion's crystal ball? Are you as excited about springtime shopping as I am??

Thanks to the lovely Monica from Spreaditfast for inviting me!
